Abstract
This paper assesses and compares the sustainability and adequacy of the Mexican pension system with respect to other countries in 2023. A new methodology is proposed to measure adequacy and sustainability using open bases, ordinal ranking, and weightings derived from factor analysis considering the empirical limitations of the Mercer approach. To better adapt to the Latin American and European contexts of the countries compared, the following variables are introduced: system fragmentation and financial education. The results show that both methodologies largely coincide in measuring Mexico's sustainability. Regarding adequacy, Mexico's position improves compared to Mercer due to the modification resulting from the new variables introduced.
